I've been taking business technologies classes since my freshman year of high school. These
classes are some of the most useful classes I've taken, because it never hurts to be a little
computer-savvy in a world of growing technology. These classes prepare us for the world of work because:
- You learn how to define your audience and make your final product based around what they
want, which is a skill every employee should master.
- You learn how to make attractive web pages, powerpoints, flyers, etc. that draw people
in and help you make good profits.
- You learn how to organize information (prime example: storyboarding). Organization is always useful no matter what
kind of job you get
- You learn how to communicate via the World Wide Web. Not every career in the world lets
you cooperate with your fellow employees sitting right beside you!
- You learn how to physically present a final product. You learn that you have to know your
material, not just be able to read it off of a sheet of a paper or a computer screen.
Employers want employees that know what they're talking about!
- To sum it all up, you learn all of the little tricks there are to get people to do whatever
it is you're trying to convince them to do, whether it's to buy a product, join an organization, etc.
Sometimes it gets frustrating and you just want to give up, but if you just sit
down and think of the ways you're benefitting from these classes, usually the pros beat out
the cons. Just think, High schoolers who take business classes have the upper hand over high schoolers
who don't take them because many of the skills taught in business classes aren't
offered anywhere else!
